Dr. Elizabeth Soslau is an associate professor in the School of Education. Her research focuses on experiential learning opportunities within student teaching. Elizabeth seeks to explore teaching practices that contribute to contexts for learning where all education stakeholders can flourish. She investigates questions such as: How do candidates’ emotional needs interrupt their ability to make sense of their learning experiences? What opportunities do candidates have to develop adaptive teaching expertise? In what ways can teacher educators promote candidates’ sense of agency and activism? How do teacher educators manage their own racial stress when providing field instruction for white candidates in racially diverse schools? Elizabeth’s work has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Teacher Education, Teaching and Teacher Education, Action in Teacher Education, and Educational Action Research. Elizabeth serves as a reviewer for numerous journals, sits on the International Advisory Board for Studying Teacher Education and is a long-time board member of the Philadelphia-based non-profit Need in Deed (www.needindeed.org). Her clinical work includes providing field instruction for teacher candidates placed in Wilmington city public schools, and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in diversity and action research methodology. Elizabeth's other important work is serving as a very proud mother of the hilarious and creative Harry Counter, and she is a dedicated partner to Chris Counter. Before pursuing her Ph.D., Elizabeth taught middle school in the Philadelphia School District.
