School of Education
Urban Education
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students can no longer declare this concentration as of Fall 2014. This information is posted for students who declared the concentration in Spring 2014 or earlier.
Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) students who pursue this concentration take the following ten courses in addition to the General Studies and Professional Studies courses required in the ETE major. All courses must be successfully completed with a grade of C- or better.
Coursework for Students Entering in Fall 2013 or Spring 2014
- EDUC 395: Building Communities of Learners in Urban Contexts (fall only)
- EDUC 459: Urban Schools and Urban Landscapes (spring only)
- EDUC 400-012: Student Teaching: Urban Education (10 credits)
- Five restricted electives that reflect students’ particular interest in urban education. Students can take courses from the list of electives in the Urban Education minor or up to one Spanish language course. If students find a course not on this list that would inform their understanding of urban education, they can email Rosalie Rolon-Dow at rosa@udel.edu with a rationale for why they would like the course to count as an elective and she will decide to approve or not to approve it as an elective.
- One free elective from any department
