Professional Experiences and Interests
Dr. Scott Lykens is the Southern Delaware program coordinator for the University of Delaware. Dr. Lykens also has a secondary appointment as an assistant professor in the School of Education. Prior to joining the University of Delaware, Dr. Lykens worked for the Caesar Rodney School District for over 30 years. During that time, he served as a high school chemistry teacher (CRHS and CRSD teacher of the year for 1999), coach (football at CRHS and Wesley College, wrestling, and track), assistant principal (CRHS), supervisor of instruction, director of instruction, and assistant superintendent. Dr. Lykens serves as the coordinator for the associate in arts elementary teacher education (AAETE) program in Georgetown, Delaware where he advises students and teaches EDUC 100: Introduction to Elementary and Middle School Education. As the Southern Delaware Program Coordinator, Dr. Lykens works to recruit students for the AA ETE program. Dr. Lykens also recruits teachers and administrators for the M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs where he assists with courses in those programs. Dr. Lykens has participated in, and contributed to, research on gender equity in science education. Dr. Lykens’ new interest is in the research which currently exists on supporting first generation college students.
